Indoor Environment Connections: A study by Harvard researchers says there is a more definite link than previously thought between mold in the home and the risk of severe asthma.
The study, which was published in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, concluded that individuals with certain genes were more likely to suffer serious asthma attacks in homes with high amounts of mold.
The researchers studied data from the Childhood Asthma Management Program, looking at children ages 5 to 12 with moderate to persistent asthma. They found 395 children and their parents who had certain expressions of chitinases, which are enzymes that break down the cell wall of fungus known as chitin.
Full ArticleResearchers at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) have made an energy storage breakthrough that could transform solar power from an alternative energy source to a conventional source. The university is calling the solar project a major advancement in energy research.
Sunlight has the greatest potential of any power source to solve the world's energy problems. In one hour, enough sunlight strikes the Earth to provide the entire planet's energy needs for one year. The problem, however, is how best to harness that energy. The research at MIT is a significant move forward in generating clean, carbon-free energy on a massive scale.
View moreTo help meet America's increasing energy needs while protecting our Nation's energy security and environment, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is working with wind industry partners to develop clean, domestic, innovative wind energy technologies that can compete with conventional fuel sources. DOE's Wind Energy Program efforts have culminated in some of industry's leading products today and have contributed to record-breaking industry growth.
View moreGeothermal energy comes from the heat in the Earth's core. The heat is used to evaporate a liquid which goes through turbines as it rises, generating electricity. The geological locations where the geothermal heat is easily available are limited and subject to change, but geothermal is a free and environmentally sound source of electricity. Geothermal can also be used for home heating, in which pipes are put into the ground which circulate a liquid that captures heat or cold from the ground and distributes it through the home. Geothermal heating systems for buildings are becoming popular.

Mold is a major health concern. PowerBees employs a variety of techniques to detect and remove mold from both the interior and surfaces of walls, ceilings, carpets and floors. Mold removal is critical to avoid common health issues.
PowerBees will repair water damage from floods or water leaking into your office or home. Our licensed contractors and technicians can quickly restore your office or home back to its original state and make it safer while at the same time, protecting it from future floods. Mold removal and bacteria treatments are an integral part of this service. Typically, water damage repair requires two visits: One to extract the water and install special equipment to dry out the area. The return visit often times the next day requires disinfection and decontamination.
Air duct cleaning should be performed on a regular basis. PowerBees technicians will remove air vent covers in the ceiling, walls and floors to insert a Rotobrush into each opening. The process is then repeated in the main HVAC trunks. The Rotobrush equipment agitates contaminants and allows their easy extraction. PowerBees also provides an antibacterial treatment using Microban, which is fogged into the system killing any harmful bacteria that may be present. This service is particularly common in hospitals and doctors offices.
